The Madrid softball team had just enough offense in the middle innings and held on late to secure a 5-4 win over Woodward-Granger in West Central Activities Conference play Monday, June 15, in Woodward.

Madrid pushed across a run in the top of the first inning.

However, Woodward-Granger answered with two runs in the bottom half to take an early 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers settled in and evened the contest in the third inning with a single run before scoring three runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

Woodward-Granger battled back, scoring once in the fourth inning and again in the fifth to cut the deficit to one.

Mayzie Surratt clubbed two home runs, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

She also tossed a complete game, striking out six batters to earn the win.

Samantha Springer went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Hailey Renslow added two hits for the Tigers, while Audrey Brown, Ashlyn Burkhart, and Kiera Alt each contributed a hit.

Tilly Sweet drove in a run for Madrid, while Lucy Schaeller scored twice and Giana Tjernagel added a run to round out the Tigers’ scoring effort.

With the win, Madrid improves to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
