The Madrid softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, 4-1, in West Central Activities Conference play Monday, June 29, at home.

The Tigers found themselves trailing early after ACGC pushed across a run in the top of the third inning.

Madrid broke through with a four-run outburst in the sixth inning to seize control.

Mayzie Surratt led the way for Madrid both offensively and defensively.

She recorded two hits at the plate and delivered a complete-game pitching performance, striking out six while limiting ACGC to just one run.

Samantha Springer also provided a boost to the offense with two hits, while Rylee Borcherding drove in two runs on her lone hit of the game.

Tilly Sweet contributed a hit and scored a run, while Ashlyn Burkhart, Savannah Bradley and Lucy Schaeller each crossed the plate during Madrid’s decisive sixth inning.

Hailey Renslow added an RBI to help cap the rally.

With the win, Madrid improves to 19-13 overall and 9-9 in conference play. Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center falls to 5-19 overall and 3-14 in the conference.

Madrid will look to build on the momentum as it hits the road for a conference doubleheader tonight against No. 11 Pleasantville, which enters play at 14-11 overall and 11-6 in the league.
