
The Madrid softball team earned a split in a pair of home games Saturday, June 6, at Madrid High School, securing a win over Nevada before falling to Mason City Newman Catholic.
Madrid 8, Nevada 4
The Tigers opened the day with an 8–4 victory over Nevada.
Mayzie Surratt pitched a complete game, striking out six batters to earn the win while also contributing offensively with two hits and a run scored.
Audrey Brown had two hits, including a double, while finishing with one run scored and one RBI.
Hadley Mickle added a hit, drove in a run, and scored once.
Ashlyn Burkhart chipped in with a hit and also crossed the plate.
Mason City Newman Catholic 9, Madrid 4
In the second game of the day, Madrid fell to Newman Catholic, 9–4 .
Brown colleced three hits, including a double, and driving in a run to lead the Tigers.
Samantha Springer tallied two hits and one RBI.
Rylee Borcherding added a hit and drove in a run.
Burkhart recorded a hit and an RBI.
Surratt threw another complete game, finishing with five strikeouts.
