Marlys George

Marlys George, 95, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Marlys George, age 95, of Boone and formerly of Gilmore City, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Marlys was born February 3, 1931, in Perry, the daughter of Roy and Mabel (Saathoff) Jackson. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1948, and then worked as a bookkeeper for the Palmer Coop Creamery.

Marlys was united in marriage to Paul George on September 2, 1950, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilmore City. They were blessed with three children. Marlys and Paul farmed together for 55 years.

Paul passed away on September 25, 2011, and a short time after, Marlys moved to Boone to be closer to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mabel; husband, Paul; son-in-law, Gordon Klingson; two brothers, Leroy Jackson and Duane Jackson: and a sister, LeAnn Bauer.

Marlys is survived by her three children, Denny (Ann) George of Muskogee, OK, Ron (Helen) George of Boone and Jane (Jerry) Morlan of Manson; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Martin of Boone and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM Thursday, July 16, 2026, followed by a visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM all at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone, with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilmore City, at approximately 2:00 PM Friday.

For those that are unable to attend the Mass, it will be livestreamed and can be viewed on Marlys’s Tribute Wall on the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel website.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Marlys’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
