Nighttime Closure of Northbound I-35 Between Ankeny and Huxley Scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 23

KWBG 12/22/25

ANKENY, Iowa—If you drive on northbound Interstate 35 between Ankeny and Ames you need to be aware of an upcoming nighttime closure of I-35 that may slow down your trip.

Crews need to finish removing barrier rail along the median of northbound I-35. Northbound I-35 will be closed from NE 126th Avenue north to U.S. 30 from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, weather permitting.

When the roadway is closed, you will follow a marked detour route around the work zone using varying exits depending on where the contractor is working. Traffic will be on U.S. 69 and U.S. 30, while using NE 36th Street, 126th Avenue, and the Iowa 210 interchanges.

Changes could be made to the detour routes. Please visit 511ia.org for current detour route information before traveling through this construction zone and pay attention to detour signing and messages boards while driving.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
