Ogden boys compete at Roland-Story tourney

The Ogden boys’ wrestling team finished near the middle of the pack of the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Ogden boys’ wrestling team finished near the middle of the pack of the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21. 

The Bulldogs scored 61 points and were 12th in the 19-team field. Sergeant Bluff won the tournament with 230 points. 

Cooper Long placed 5th at 113 pounds. He received a bye in the 1st round. In he quarterfinals, he was pinned by Hunter Campion of Anamosa in 2:37. In the consolation rounds, he pinned Andrew Orozco of Eagle Grove in 4:39 and was pinned by Konner Keller of Earlham in 1:19. In the 5th place match, Long pinned Jaren Wirtz of Southeast Polk in 3:03. 

Ryder Eklund placed 7th at 126 pounds. In the 1st round, he pinned Austin Bradley of Estherville Lincoln Central in :58. In the quarterfinals, he was pinned by Judah Gurwell of Winterset in 3:26. In the consolation rounds, he was pinned by Trace Huisman of Saint Ansger in 3:58 and pinned Gabe Kingery of Southeast Polk in :31. In the 7th place match, Eklund pinned Hunter Waldo-Martinez of Eagle Grove in 1:29. 

Dillon Moe placed 7th at 150 pounds. In the 1st round, he lost by technical fall to Kade Messer of Winterset 15-0. In the consolation rounds, he pinned Kade Messer of Winterset in 2:52, won by decision over Isaac Hall of Roland-Story 12-7 and pinned Jackson Berkley of Earlham in 3:08. In the 7th place match, Moe won by decision over Mason Wibholm of Gilbert, 9-5. 

Landon Alexander placed 7th at 157 pounds. He pinned Cody Puck of Gilbert in the 1st round. In the quarterfinals, he was pinned by Taylor Mahler of Hampton-Dumone-CAL in :36. In the consolation rounds, he was pinned by Wes Martin of Estherville Lincoln Central in :55 and pinned Dreven Smith of Atlantic in :42. In the 7th place match, Alexander won by major decision over Logan Dunn 10-1.

Other teams participating were Winterset, Atlantic, Anamosa, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Southeast Polk, Earlham, Estherville Lincoln Central, Woodward-Granger, Eagle Grove, Roland-Story, Grinnell, St. Edmond, East Marshall-GMG, Saint Ansgar, Gilbert, Southeast Valley and South Hamilton. 

Ogden will travel to Boone for a dual meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 6, in Boone.
