Ogden boys have two runners-up at tourney

The Ogden Bulldogs boys’ wrestling team produced two runner-up finishes at the Charger Invitational held Saturday, January 31, at Guthrie Center.

The Ogden Bulldogs boys’ wrestling team produced two runner-up finishes at the Charger Invitational held Saturday, January 31, at Guthrie Center. 

Ogden’s Ryder Eklund (132) and Kinnick Munson (138) each finished 2nd while the team tied for 15th place with 56 points in a 20‑team tournament.  

Riverside-Oakland won the team title, with Eagle Grove and Earlham rounding out the top three. 

Eklund (31‑4) earned a 2nd‑place finish. 

After receiving a first‑round bye, Eklund pinned Taylen Secroy (Manson NW Webster) in just 48 seconds, then secured a tight 5‑3 semifinal decision over Hunter Waldo Martinez (Eagle Grove).  

In the championship, he ran into Ty Strode (Nodaway Valley) and lost by tech fall. 

Munson (28‑6) also claimed 2nd place. 

Munson opened with a bye, then pinned Townes Wilson (Perry) in 56 seconds before needing just 59 seconds to pin Gabe Kingery (Southeast Polk) in the semifinals.  

He met Drew Anderson (Riverside‑Oakland) in the finals, falling by pin at 1:36. 

Lucas Pelleymounter at 157 (14‑8) recorded two wins. 

He opened with a 1:31 pin over Dylan Donovan (Panorama), then added a 13‑0 major decision in the second round of consolations.  

Pelleymounter was eliminated in the following round. 

Isaac Dominick at 144 (16‑14) picked up a solid opening‑round fall in 1:40 over Gavin Burton (Manson NW Webster). 

He was eliminated after back‑to‑back losses in the quarterfinals and consolations. 

Cooper Long at 126 (14‑9) was eliminated after two contested matches, both ending by fall.  

He advanced through the bracket with a consolation bye. 

Cash Williams at 215 (12‑15) advanced through the consolation side with a bye but was eliminated after two contested losses by fall.

Ogden next hosts the Class 1A, District 7, Wrestling Tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14. 

Teams in the district include Ackley-Geneva/Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock, Janesville, Manson-Northwest Webster, Martensdale St. Mary’s, North Tama, Ogden Panorama, South Hamilton, West Central Valley and West Hancock. 

Placements at districts will determine who qualifies for the state tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Saturday, February 18- 21, at Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
