Ogden sends 2 wrestlers to state

Ryder Eklund and Landon Alexander both qualified for state for the Ogden boys’ wrestling team. 

Both placed 2nd at the Class 1A, District 9, wrestling meet Saturday, February 15, at South Hamilton. 

At 120 pounds, Eklund pinned Brady Abbass of Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock in :36 in the quarterfinals before pinning John Ackerman of Pocohontas Area in 1:07 in the semifinals. 

In the championship match, Eklund was pinned by Hayden Schwab of Don Bosco in 1:29 before winning by technical fall over Brayden Werneberg of South Central Calhoun, 21-4, in the 2nd place match. 

At 157 pounds, Alexander pinned Trace Junker of South Hamilton in :52 in the quarterfinals before winning by decision over Hunter Newman of Manson-Northwest Webster, 9-8, in the semifinals. 

In the championship match, Alexander was pinned by Ethan Christoffer of Don Bosco in 1:19 before winning by no contest to Newman in the 2nd place match. 

Other place finishers for the Bulldogs included Kinnick Munson in 3rd place at 132 pounds, Lucas Pellymounter in 4th place at 144 pounds, and Dillon Moe in 4th place at 150 pounds. 

Other wrestlers competing at districts for Odgen included Riley Saunders at 106 pounds, Cooper Long at 113 pounds, Brody Hitsman at 126 pounds, Isaac Dominick at 138 pounds, Sylus Rude at 165 pounds, Jakob Crossman at 175 pounds, Cash Williams at 190 pounds and Cayden Dudley at heavyweight.

 The Iowa High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships will be held Wednesday-Saturday, February 19-22, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. 

Class AA wrestlers will wrestle their first round and consolation matches beginning at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 19.
