BOONE, Iowa—The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa will arrive in Boone Tuesday and thousands of participants will be spending the night. Several things have been in planning for several months and over the next couple of days. The first impact will be closing South Story Street, Monday evening at 7:00 to facilitate set-up for the event. Entertainment and vendors will be concentrated in that area. Riders will arrive in Boone Tuesday and Mamie Eisenhower Avenue will be closed down at 9:00 in the morning. Boone Police Chief John Wiebold said some early riders may arrive before that, but the bulk will begin to filter in after 9:00 and should be in by 6:00 or 6:30 Monday evening. Wiebold emphasized that even with street closures, there will still be manned intersections for people to cross.
Departure on Wednesday morning will be on Hancock Drive to Corporal Rodger Snedden Drive, north to 210th Street (Old Highway 30), then east to Robin Road and access to Highway 17. The ride will be headed to Gilbert.
