Robert Lager

KWBG 02/20/25

BOONE, Iowa—Robert “Bobby” Milton Lager, 75, of Logan, Iowa, died on February 18th, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. He was the oldest of 11 born to Milton and Clare Lager in Boone, Iowa, on November 16, 1949. The family later moved back towards Logan and settled in Missouri Valley, where he graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1968.

On June 7th, 1980, he married Alinda Denece Angstrom. Their children are Michelle Lager (Mike) Christianson of Sergeant Bluff, Blake (fiancée Danielle Wafful) Lager of Urbandale, and Kirk (Tara) Lager of Fort Dodge. Their grandchildren are Eric Christianson, and Adriana and Evan Lager. They loved being Grandparents as much as anything else in life.

Robert worked lifelong for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, later becoming Union Pacific Railroad. He would spend decades as a dispatcher working overnights to ensure all his coworkers and friends stayed informed and safe on the rails. His hobbies included everything and anything railroad-related from his collections of toy trains and memorabilia, to volunteering on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and helping educate children as part of Operation Lifesaver with the C&NW.

He also loved camping and fishing, watching his Westerns, reading all the regional newspapers and every train magazine he could find. Going to concerts, weekends in Okoboji, and finding a new restaurant with Alinda were always a favorite. He became quite the road trip partner, crisscrossing the US with her visiting friends, family, old classmates and coworkers throughout retirement.

Surviving siblings are Christy, Susan, Jean (Mike), Raymond (Judy), Kathy (Gokhan), Joe (Deborah), Nancy (Bill), Pat (Tanya), and Michael.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alinda; brother, David (Janette) Lager; and two brothers-in-law, Charlie and Dale.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Robert’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
