School Board Narrows List of Superintendent Candidates

KWBG 12/31/19

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School Board held a work session meeting Monday to begin taking the next step to finding a new superintendent.  Following the meeting Monday, the District released this information:

The application period (October 11-December 20th) recently closed for candidates interested in the district superintendent position. The district hired Grundmeyer Leader Services to assist with the recruiting and hiring process. After the conclusion of the application period, 32 applicants officially applied for the position.

The pool of candidates included five female candidates and 27 male candidates. There were 29 candidates that identified themselves as white, one Hispanic applicant and one African-American. Nineteen of the candidates had a Specialist degree with ten candidates who had a terminal degree (EdD or PhD). Seventeen in the pool had five or more years of district leadership experience with two candidates that had nineteen years or more.

The school board met with the search consultants on Monday, Dec. 30th to review the candidate pool. The consultants presented reference summaries, licensure information and evidence on each candidate. After a thorough review of each applicant, the board identified seven candidates to move forward for 30-minute screening interviews on Jan. 9th. The board also drafted the screening interview questions and reviewed the formal interview schedule.

After the Jan. 9th screening interviews, finalists will be named. These finalists’ names will be made public soon after the screening interviews. Stakeholders invited on the formal interview teams will be asked to provide feedback on the formal interview questions.

Superintendent hiring timeline:

Dec. 30, 2019 Board reviews candidate pool (closed session)

January 9, 2020 Board screens candidates (closed session)

January 20, 2020 Formal interviews with finalists
