Two Hospitalized Following Early Morning House Fire

KWBG 04/01/19

BOONE, Iowa—Two people were taken to the Boone County Hospital Monday morning following an early morning house fire in the 1100-block of West Fourth Street in Boone.  The Boone Fire Department released these details:

At approximately 4:25 this morning the Boone Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1114 W 4th Street. Engine 8-62 arrived approximately 5 minutes later with 3 on-duty firefighters finding heavy smoke showing from the front of the house. An aggressive interior attack was attempted but the crew had to back out because of excessive heat. A defensive position was taken in the doorway to cool the interior until additional firefighters arrived. Truck 8-66, Engine 8-61, Rescue 8-67 and Chief 8-60 arrived approximately 12 minutes after the page with 10 additional firefighters. Several crews began interior fire attack and completed a search of the residence.

The fire was extinguished but unfortunately caused extensive fire damage to a large part of the interior and heavy smoke damage throughout the property. Two occupants of the structure were able to escape prior to our arrival and were transported to the Boone County Hospital by ambulance with injuries from the fire. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Boone Police Department, Boone County Ambulance, Boone County Search and Rescue, Boone Area Humane Society, Boone County Communications and Alliant Energy.
