BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Road Department announced today that the Union Pacific Railroad will begin construction at at-grade crossings this weekend.
Beginning Saturday, August 8, 2026, railroad crossing construction will begin at all at-grade crossings across Boone County, progressing from the west county line to the east county line.
A rolling closure will be in effect, with only a few crossings closed at a time while work is being completed. Crews will begin work each day at 7:30 a.m. and are expected to complete approximately 6 to 8 miles of track per day. The contractor is currently working in Greene County and will enter Boone County as work progresses east.
Please use caution, watch for posted detours and traffic control, and expect brief delays near active work areas.
