MADRID, Iowa—Madrid School Superintendent Brian Horn has announced that the district will delay the start of school until Thursday, September 3rd. In a message late Saturday, Horn said there was a positive COVID case with a staff member. Through contact tracing it may involve possible exposure to other staff members. Horn’s message asks for understanding that the K-12 students will not start school until September 3rd. He also noted that additional details are being made available to parents through the district’s Infinite Campus program.
The Madrid School Board had delayed the start of school to Monday, August 31st because of damage to district facilities from the derecho that occurred on August 10th. Originally, plans were for school to start on August 24th.
