Joyce Colleen Boehm

KWBG 11/29/22

Joyce Colleen (Barquist) Boehm, 91, passed away on November 27, 2022. She resided at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa.

Joyce was born on January 4, 1931, daughter of Floyd Warren and Hazel Bernice (Bailey) Barquist. She was baptized at Swedish Lutheran Church, Stratford, Iowa. Joyce was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church, Boone, Iowa in May 1945. She graduated from Boone High School in 1948, attended Drake University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1952. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

Joyce married John Robert Boehm on June 22, 1952 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Boone, Iowa. They raised four children in Ogden, Iowa. Joyce taught school in 1952, and returned to teaching in 1974 – ‘95 at Ogden Public Schools. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden serving on the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, local women’s church guild and Sunday School teacher for many years. Joyce learned to play piano ‘by ear’ as a young girl, playing for family, church, school and community events. She enjoyed playing cards in bridge club including Unity Bridge Club in retirement.

Survivors include children, Kyle Anne Halbur of Carroll, Mark (Mary Katherine) Boehm of Boone, Hans (Pamela) Boehm of Boone, and Jana Boehm of Atlanta, GA; brother, William Barquist (Marilyn) of Ames; sister-in-law, Carol (Boehm) Hunt of West Hartford, CT; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 immediate nieces and nephews.

Predecessors include Joyce’s spouse, John R. Boehm (D.’19); parents, Floyd and Hazel Barquist; parents-in-law, Arnold and Jewell Boehm; brother, Edward Barquist; sisters-in-law, Sandra Barquist, Doris (Boehm) Derrick, and Jean Boehm; brother-in-law, John Hunt; nephew, Lindsay Hunt; and son-in-law, Michael R. Halbur.

The funeral service will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa, on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow immediately after the funeral at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday night December 2, 2022 from 5-7 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, 319 W. Elm St. Ogden, Iowa.
