Balanced scoring led the Class 1A, No. 2, Madrid boys’ basketball team to the West Central Conference championship with a victory over Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, 68-48, Tuesday, February 11 in Madrid.
The Tigers were up, 13-9, at the end of the 1st quarter and were up, 32-25, at the half.
A strong 3rd quarter propelled Madrid to a 53-36 lead, and they won the game, 68-48.
Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz had 16 points on 7 field goals and 2 3-pointers while Toryn Severson had 16 points on 5 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 5 free throws.
Brody Buck had 15 points on 6 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 2 free throws.
In addition, Toryn Severson went over 2,000 career points in the win for Madrid.
Emerson Bridgewater had 4 assists while Buck added 2.
Bridgewater had 10 rebounds and 2 blocks while Jevyn Severson had 8 rebounds and 1 block.
Buck grabbed 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Madrid finishes the regular season unbeaten at 21-0 and 15-0 in the conference.
ACGC is right behind at 18-2 and 13-2.
The Tigers open district play Monday, February 17, at 7 p.m. at Madrid against the winner of the Colfax-Mingo/Melcher-Dallas game.
Madrid is the No. 1 seed in Class 1A Substate 6, District 12.
