
BOONE, Iowa—Diana Lawson, 80, of Boone, Iowa, passed peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026. Diana was born on November 10, 1945, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Marjorie Kafer. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963. On September 20, 1963, Diana was united in marriage to Ron Lawson. The couple later welcomed two daughters, Lynn and Susan. Ron and Diana were happily married for 57 years.
Diana and Ron moved to Boone, where they started their business, Lawson Communications, which they successfully ran together for 30 years. Following retirement, Ron and Diana traded in their office for a window seat at Dutch Oven Bakery. They could always be found at Boone High events, supporting their daughters and, later, their grandchildren.
Diana was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Boone, where she served in many capacities and fostered lasting friendships. She never met a stranger and was known for her generosity, kind heart, and bright pink lipstick. Diana had a passion for gardening and traveling the world via cruise ship with her family and friends. She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi and had fond memories with her sorority sisters.
Diana was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Bill Kafer, brother-in-law Ed Lawson, and nephew Jeff Moranville.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Tim) Johnson and Sue (Mark) Lawson, and her grandchildren, Lance (Taya) and Taylor Johnson. She is also survived by numerous siblings: Donna, Barb (Dan), Diane, Tony (Tina), Terry (Mavis), Cindy, Randy, Mike (Denna), Jack, Julia, Judith, and Janice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone, followed by interment at Linwood Park Cemetery. The family will be present for a visitation at 9:30 am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
