Madrid girls win 7 events at home invitational

The Madrid girls track and field team won seven individual events and one relay and finished third overall with 116.5 points Tuesday, April 14, while hosting the Madrid Invitational.

The Madrid girls track and field team won seven individual events and one relay and finished third overall with 116.5 points Tuesday, April 14, while hosting the Madrid Invitational. 

Boone and Roland‑Story shared the team championship, each scoring 121 points, narrowly edging the host Tigers. 

Madrid was led by Paige Richards, who claimed three individual event wins.  

Richards captured first place in the 100‑meter dash with a time of 12.92 seconds, followed by another win in the 200-meter dash in 27.01.  

She added a third victory in the long jump, soaring 16 feet, 8.25 inches. 

Lauren Dvorak won the discus with a throw of 125‑10 and followed with second place in the shot put at 37‑07.50. 

Mayzie Surratt finished fifth in the shot put at 30‑04.50. 

Madrid showed depth in the distance races.  

Madelyn Grothus captured first place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:02.16, while Katelyn Brandhorst finished close behind in second at 5:04.57.  

Hannah Brandhorst won the 300-meter run in 11:37.02 and later added a third‑place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:35.01. 

The Tigers captured first place in the distance medley relay.  

The team of Olivia Ostert, Jaela Hansen, Kimmee Smith and Katelyn Brandhorst crossed the line in a winning time of 4:39.69. 

In hurdle competition, Adelyn White placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.59, and she also anchored Madrid’s shuttle hurdle relay.  

That relay team of Iyla Fine, Charlotte Schaeller, Ashlyn Burkhar and White finished fourth in 1:12.90.

Madrid will be back in action this afternoon as the Tigers are scheduled to compete at the Ogden girls meet.
