Joining us on coaches corner here on KWB G gonna talk some boon boys track and I'll tell you what Tony Constantino, I don't know if he told the boys that we were gonna have coaches cornered the next day, but just a Fantastic Thursday over in Perry at the Davis relays and I know it wasn't a big meat coach But I was looking at the competition obviously Ogden had a real nice night as well Kemper Catholic South Central Calhoun always has some guys that can get after it And I know Perry's got some good distance runners. They've been known for that But boy, I was trying to figure out Tony where to start with you just because I was looking up and down the line-ups and what Everybody did in the firsts and the the relays and the individuals so I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm tapping out I'm gonna let you start this one. Where do you want to start with this group Tony? What a what a fantastic Thursday night? Well, you know, you got to start with the open 400 you have two guys that go first and second and Jamie Clark has been Super like I can tell you some other words, but he goes. I want to break 53 You know, he's had those 53 splits in our 4x4. He you know, he ran 52 92 So he was pretty jacked last night. It was nice to double point that event And you know what and I got to give I got to commend, you know Our our whole coaching staff and I'm not talking about the boys side that our girls side to with Chad Klein and Bill Castle You know, they've been doing a lot of our sprinting handoff instruction in our handoff I've got so much better. So, you know, I got to give them some love, too In JC Zander as well. And then, you know, in the throwing events, you know, Coach Myers, he's done a great job With with our our throwers, you know, our boys go first and second in the discus King's record really improved And then obviously, you know, Jude dude, Jude's getting back into everything those those 53 those 50 feet throws Which is great and and even Javier who you know, he's doing tennis, you know, he got third force, too It was an all-around effort So I just appreciate appreciated how the guys competed last night. It was finally nice to have a warm day, too It's probably weird to have a warm day. That's what it was Something else something else that I noticed to coach and I know I'm actually glad you brought that up in the in the 400 Because there were a ton of first and seconds or second and thirds I mean in the high hurdles as well, Bodie and Brendan went second and third there I mean double scoring in events is really difficult to do and I don't care what meet you're at Tony you guys did that quite a bit in Perry. I mean that was something I'm sure going in You probably had thoughts and ideas of but to actually see it happen on paper and and happen during the meet Man, that's a good night to drive home. Isn't it? Yeah, and Ryan and you know, you know this too You don't always have to get the first places, right? You just have to score, you know, second third fourth fifth You know, I think last night they scored the eight depending on which event it was So if you can just start racking up those points and just placing high enough you can win me So that's kind of what happened last night. It's funny that you brought up Bodie and Brendan You know those guys have really enjoyed running the high hurdles Brendan not so much last year He goes this year. I want to give it a shot. He's already, you know He's already gone under his personal best and in Bodie to Bodie's like I ran faster in the highs than I did the shuttle I go, how does that work? So he's really like, okay I can do this and there, you know, we talk about that three-step pattern You know, if you're a high school boy, you're three-stepping and that's what these guys are doing So, you know kudos to them and you know, I was really excited that I'm like, please, you know, let's get through the race Let's get through all ten hurdles. Let's get to the finish line and they did that and they took a couple hurdles with them, right? Hey, if they're out there and you're still in your lane, it's it's all legal, right? So it's fine You don't touch them with your hands. Exactly right exactly right. Hey somebody else who had a real nice Thursday night I want you to talk a little bit about Dorian Myers because I know in the 1600 he went 447 man What a fantastic time that is Yeah, I for some reason around I knew you're gonna bring that up I mean, he looked if you ever watch him run, he's like a gazelle and Last night he ran pretty much by himself. So it's hard to break five in run by yourself I mean he I think he about lapped another athlete just because he was just so relaxed his striped pattern was amazing I don't even think he broke stride. He's just a gazelle and I hit previous best was like four I think it was like 452 447 and with hardly, you know any meets because it's like our first nice day I mean, I'm excited to see kind of what the rest of the season looks like with him And he's pretty he's pretty excited about that and and obviously Calvin Cook coming in third, you know I'm double-pointing there really help there are 16 points right there. So I just I mean 67 and then I saw, you know, the rest of the the field and and I know Calvin had a real nice night But that's tough Tony to run by yourself in that kind of event, isn't it? Yeah, it is, you know, especially on a six-lane track. It kind of feels, you know, kind of feels empty You know, you're at an 18, you know, track me Everybody's kind of spread out like last night, you know with six teams It just doesn't seem like there's a lot of people there So I could see where athletes might hold back if they're you know holding a lead But Dorian kept pushing all the way through which is great and you know speaking to him, too When we put him in the four by four, he's running 52 as well So it's like wow this kid can do everything that's 400 or up That's not a bad thing. The two miles maybe not a thing but I Guarantee tells me that's not a thing Yeah, so he's just that long sprinter, you know, like mid-distance but short distance when it comes to the mile I mean like and then he finishes and he just walks off like he hadn't run it on like how do you do that? I would be on the ground probably puking He just walks right off miles and pretty pretty excited about his performance. So I need a gator in an oxygen tank That's all I'm gonna tell you Tony. I'm gonna tell you hey another event that I need a gator in an oxygen tank But they have been doing such a nice job this year. Take me inside the four by eight a little bit They get first they run an 851 22 Doreen and Calvin on that team as well But Teddy and Austin look like they had a pretty nice night for you as well That looks like a relay Tony that you better keep an eye on because you're gonna have some guys kind of fighting to get on that thing Yeah, and I gotta give I gotta commend coach worsen for the training because you can see these guys are getting better You know the time we're rotating kids in and out So, you know instead of having these four our four regulars now We have six guys that we can rotate in and like, you know, maybe Doreen doesn't have to run that four-way We can what we could put like but often be in there You could put lampy in there you can in AJ a didn't even run that you know We can just substitute kids in and out and we're still gonna run you know eight fifty or better But they're they're split they're improving, you know, Teddy Johnson. He's only a freshman. He's running 212 That's that's something to build on Austin Felder same thing. He's a freshman 209 great times refreshment. Oh, yeah You know Calvin 216, that's not bad. No, but he's also running three, you know, three sometimes four races a night So we're gonna give him a little leeway there because he's A lot of his energy and stuff and sometimes like a limit to mile and in Doreen He just kind of strategize where you're gonna put him for that meeting We're gonna put him in the four-by-four if you're gonna run the four-by-and the four-by-four Did he not run the you know, it's just a lot of that strategy It's in cast and bill and in Chad we all talk about like, okay What do we want to do here? So it's just that collaboration between the coaches But also like we have we have guys that we can you know strategize with to it into substitute move around her It's been great to have those conversations even with the kids, too Well, I wanted to wrap things up with each only I know Green County's coming up on Monday night And it sounds like that weather looks great for that meet which we're super excited about But another passion that that you've been a part of and coach castle and coach worsen and I could probably keep going and going Because you guys have such a good call collaboration with this But Boone running club Tony, we're gonna have another season of that I know there were some questions just about you know, how are things going what was gonna happen? You guys had a chance to have a parent meeting Tell me about Boone running club and some things and how people could be a part of that Yeah, so we're we open up April 26th, which is a Sunday, so typically Twice a week, you know, because Boone's very softball and baseball and obviously throw a dance and you have travel basketball So we really try not to over install families with practice time because you know, when they're when they're younger They don't need to have five full days of practice. So today's is 20 Especially when you start getting to the meets and it's like essentially three practices, you know The glorified practice would be the meat and those people started till like Second or third week of May and actually we tried to with our schedule One of the meets we go over to aim flyers, which I think that aims middle school I believe so I have to check on that, but it's close by right? I we try to set our schedule so we're not sending families all the way down to indianola So we've really tailored our schedule to you know trips within an hour So like I think the morning so Excalibur's has one we're hosting. We're hosting a whole meet 17th of May So we've added about five or six weeks Which is plenty for our kids and then obviously if the kids that are like hey I want to go to the I want to try to compete at state which is an aim as well Then they can move on in and this year our fee includes they get their USATF membership So they can compete at all USATF competitions and even the ones that are not They can still go to those even if our team doesn't compete so it gives them it gives them an identity, right? And then our practices typically are gonna be six to seven thirty Obviously, well, it'll be sprints and distance and kids can go between the two groups And then obviously the last kind of the last 30 minutes of people are like for field events So, you know, we highly encourage kids to try both spreading the distance But like I like I told parents at the meeting and built up this to like In cast as well. We don't we're not gonna tell kids. They're gonna be a sprinter. They're just they're gonna They're gonna figure that out over time right kids change. Yeah, so we just want them to have a good experience Be a good teammate And just like Bill said just get better, right? Just get better and that's kind of the mantra. We're all with Guys can check Boone running club out on their Facebook page and in contacting through there. Tony is always. Thank you so much for some time Thanks for for doing that Boone running club again. I know you and I've talked about this offer a million times That's going to eventually be a not just a big deal for there But those kids are gonna start coming through high school and that's when well actually soon won't it be Tony just in a couple of years I think you'll start seeing kids start rolling through, right? Yeah, you know what that means. I mean like that means I can't leave. I mean that like stick it out, right? Yeah Yeah, you got as we talked about at the end of last season. We got to run it back again next year Yeah, you know, we're starting to get club records established You know, we haven't had a sound parents our goal to get some relays going get the relay record So we can start building this culture. So we're excited about it and Yeah, I just in cast, you know cast and bill, you know, we have this group chat It's just group chat. It's like JC and Nate and me and cast and Bill and Chad We're all chatting about you know, like we're all talking track every night, right? It's like, okay Well, it's outside our contract hours, but we just we just love the sport, you know We just love talking about it and it's just fun. You know, it's something you enjoyed your limit It's not what you do with who you are and We just we just love it. Well, it's not work when you enjoy it that much either. So I know that much so Tony's always. Thank you so much for some time. Best of luck in Jefferson on Monday night We'll talk to you in a couple of weeks All right, see you then Ryan. You bet Tony Constantino. Good joining us boom boys track here on coaches corner
