
The Boone softball team earned a split against No. 13 Gilbert in a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader Monday, June 15, at Gary Creasman Field, dropping the opener 9-3 before bouncing back with a 10-0, four-inning victory in Game 2.
Game 1: No. 13 Gilbert 9, Boone 3
Brooke Weisbrod led the Toreador offense with two doubles.
Hailee Bingham reached safely for a hit and scored twice, while Halley Bailey added a hit, drove in a run and crossed the plate once.
Finley Houser and Harper Kuehl each recorded a hit, and Kaylee Kuehl drove in two runs to account for the bulk of Boone’s scoring.
Kaylee Kuehl took the loss, striking out two.
Tenley Williams provided relief and also recorded two strikeouts.
Game 2: Boone 10, Gilbert 0 (4 innings)
The Toreadors responded in the nightcap, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Boone added three more runs in the third to secure the victory.
Kaylee Kuehl delivered the highlight of the game with a home run to go along with a run scored and an RBI.
Halle Bailey finished with two hits, including a double, while scoring a run, driving in two and stealing a base.
Claire Hardinger chipped in with a hit and scored twice, and Hailee Bingham contributed a hit, two runs scored and two RBI.
Weisbrod had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Karsyn Smith added two hits and a run scored, and Harper Kuehl recorded a hit and scored.
Weisbrod struck out four in the four-inning shutout.
Boone now sits at 7-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while Gilbert moves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Raccoon River Conference.
The Toreadors will host Webster City in a non-conference matchup at Gary Creasman Field tonight at 7 p.m.
