
The Madrid baseball team ran into one of the state’s toughest teams Tuesday, June 30, as conference-leading Pleasantville swept a West Central Activities Conference doubleheader.
Pleasantville claimed the opener 12-0 in four innings before taking the nightcap 11-1 in six innings to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Game 1: Pleasantville 12, Madrid 0 (4 innings)
In Game 1, Madrid was limited to just one hit by Brady Springer.
Zach Newell took the loss on the mound and recorded two strikeouts.
Conner Pettiecord provided relief work and struck out four batters.
Game 2: Pleasantville 11, Madrid 1 (6 innings)
Pleasantville’s offense stayed hot in the second game, building another comfortable lead on the way to an 11-1 victory.
Madrid managed two hits in the nightcap.
Eli Petersen collected a hit, while Liam Tjernagel finished with a hit and drove in the Tigers’ lone run.
Levi Kockler took the loss in relief and recorded two strikeouts.
The sweep drops Madrid to 10-18 overall and 7-13 in the West Central Activities Conference.
Pleasantville improved its stellar record to 28-1 overall and a perfect 20-0 in conference play.
The Tigers will face Collins-Maxwell (14-11) in a Class 1A, Substate 3 contest at 5 p.m. Friday, July 3, at the North Polk fields in Alleman.
