The Boone baseball team scored nine runs in the third inning on the way to an 11-1 victory over Winterset in 5 innings as it closed out its home schedule and Raccoon River Conference slate Monday, July 6, at Memorial Park.

Winterset grabbed its only run of the game in the top of the first inning, but Boone answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.

The Toreadors then put the game away with a massive nine-run outburst in the third inning, building an 11-1 advantage and ending the contest early.

Boone’s offense was led by Tyce Carlson, who finished with three hits, including a double, scored one run and drove in five runs.

Noah Davies added two hits and two runs scored, while Levi Behn recorded two hits and two runs scored.

Ryan Bowers chipped in one hit, one run scored and two RBIs, and RJ Lennon contributed one hit, one run and two RBIs.

Noah Gorman had one hit, one run scored and one RBI, and Landon Youngblood added one hit and one RBI.

Cole Christeson, Beau Bass and Braxton Gifford each crossed the plate for Boone.

Starting pitcher Behn struck out one batter before turning things over to the bullpen.

Youngblood recorded two strikeouts in relief, and Conor Scoggins struck out out five batters to earn the victory.

The Toreadors improved to 16-11 overall and 7-9 in conference play, while Winterset fell to 13-15 overall and 5-11 in the Raccoon River Conference.

The win gives Boone momentum heading into the regular-season finale.

The Toreadors will travel to Nevada (13-13) on Wednesday, July 8, for a non-conference matchup and their final game before postseason play.
