Coaches Corner for July 30th: Lindsey Hyman, Boone Softball

with us on coaches corner kwb g get a chance to put a wrap on the boon softball season is lindsay hyman joining us tory doors finish up the season in the original final losing the north poke of a finish at sixteen and sixteen on the year and uh... raccoon river conference again now well represented at the state meeting lindsay i guess that's from a start with you i know you had a chance to watch some of those uh... games that uh... at fort dodge what you think about uh... what the rack did down there yeah obviously i'd i'd heard for many years how good the raccoon conference was at softball but to see it in action see the girls you played all year on performing at the state meet performing at the high level continuing the tradition of them winning year after year it really does bring uh... justification to what we did this year on so many people that it may be feel prideful of our girls and the the conference and and what they compete against every night i kind of feel like i should have put you on the spot but were you surprised idiom was the champ you know i had my my gut told me for dodgers gonna pull her out uh... but i thought it would be the radium or fort dodged so i think i was right there though the fort dodged finish pretty high and obviously idiom is just a force to be reckoned with when they did a nice job with them yeah they really they were really good this year alright so you've had a little bit of time to to kind of look back in and and i don't know sometimes i think it's good to take a step away and then kind of look back at the season overall with with uh... the cards you were kind of dealt kind of coming in late obviously to to interim coach what do you think of the season yeah obviously you always try to look at the good and you look at what you would like to improve i i feel like we did well on with what we we had i feel like the kids grew and i think at the end of the year if you can leave girls in a better spot than what they came in at that is always uh... a positive i think we grew a lot and uh... our short game throughout the year i was really proud of their growth there i feel like we ran the base as well uh... we had we got through the slumps you know softball and baseball you're always going to have uh... highs and lows and those lows we came out of and on the productive win out of them grew in that capacity so i feel like it was a good year obviously i would like to see more wins uh... but just like we said the rc is is such a battle every night so uh... i feel good about the growth of girls lindsay i looked back at the schedule i didn't find one game where i said okay this might be a team that could make the regional final but what i did find is you played your best softball when you were supposed to and that was at the end of the season that has to make you pretty happy to yet you don't want to peak in in early june or it's going to be a long rest of the season but i thought you were playing your best softball when you were supposed to be yeah that's true that's a good point you do always want to be uh... peeking at the right time and we definitely had all cylinders um... rolling at the end i mean part of it you've heard me say this in previous calls is we had a lot of injuries throughout the year so i was grateful everybody was ready to at least be ready to roll by the end obviously exquisite every who will be ready for next year but uh... yeah i think we we have a lot to figure out at the beginning um... got to the point where we had a pretty set line up by the end and we gave her our best and we had chances you know in that last game and that's just how this game works that's why you play the game well some other things that i thought was nice too it felt like uh... strikeouts to walks uh... ratio i always look at at the end of the season felt like the girls were a lot more patient i actually went back to about ballard i think it was the second time through and ballard to the end of the season lindsay not just the ballard game but but all those games to get combined it looked to me like we were more much much more patient at the play yeah we worked very hard on that throughout the season just on choosing pitch selection understanding your account knowing what pitches that each girl likes and can hit really well um... so i do feel like we grew a lot in just our app apps and our intelligence at the plate something else that's always important too we don't like to give free bases and i felt like the defense was something that you got to be pretty happy about felt like the girls took a nice step forward uh... this year from last year i think i remember it was somewhere it was under fifty errors total this season lindsay you maybe know the number but i i know it was under i just can't remember exactly where it was but well i thought that was impressive this year too yeah again another um... point that was really focused on was our defense and just limiting errors um... the rc will eat you alive with one error so you can't you cannot make those if you want to have any sort of chance to compete on and the girls know that they went in every day and i think the other part that we really jumped back from this game is easy to spiral you make one error another girl makes an error and the games where we we lost that i i felt sad about where the ones that that happened in and i think by the end they were doing really good job of just being mentally strong and letting airs go when they did happen because they are going to happen in this game but our team defensively they really did a nice job especially with how young we were well you got some nice postseason accolades and i feel like especially when you get them from the raccoon river conference and that's nothing against some of the other ones so don't don't mistake when i say that but i always feel like if you get some awards in the raccoon river conference when it comes to all conference list lindsay i always feel like that's a huge compliment just because of how good that softball was did you feel pretty good when you when you went into that meeting number one to vote for and then kind of how you guys came out yeah for sure you're not wrong i feel like the all-conference list is a little pseudo all-state list in many regards um yeah we i feel good especially you know we finished second to last in the conference so it's always hard to get as many girls on as you would like honestly i'd love to get all of them on in some regard they were a key part to our success but that's just not how it works and and i feel good about um the girls who made it on and and what they were able to do for us this year well tell me about stepping back now a little bit obviously lindsay with getting a chance to to be in the stands next year i know we've talked about just during the season i know you've talked with people about it as well and it'll be nice to to go back and be a mom and be able to to coach you know uh if you would choose to do that again next year but is it going to be uh i guess kind of fun to watch what the girls are able to do from this year to now next summer oh 100 i mean that's the best part of being just an educator in general um i was actually just talking to a friend of mine about how excited i am to see so many of these girls enter their next season of volleyball and then swimming and basketball and track and just to see them grow as humans and as athletes um all of it matters for their overall success and they're a great group of kids um they work really hard they're kind to each other and at the end of the day that's what we ask right we're trying to raise human beings they're going to enter society and i don't think we could ask for a better group of young ladies all right final thing for me lindsay uh you get a chance because you had a chance to obviously watch the girls play this year give me a couple of things what do you want to see this group doing the off season to get ready for next may yeah i i like that question a lot obviously we have a very strong pitching group here um brook brook got that second team all state which is a really great honor for her the foray is classes loaded she had a lot of um pressure on her shoulders throughout the year to perform i mean hitting that grand slam against winter set really sealed the deal she pitches she hits what's great about her is she can lead some um of the other pitchers along the way they each have a different skill set they can mix and match those positions really well so um i think that's really exciting i'm excited to see the pitching staff develop um obviously that everyone's excited to see avry come back hallie did an incredible job and i'm really intrigued to see if there's a mixture behind the plate if they can put hallie in a different spots sometimes sometimes she catches avry can go at a lot of spots so i'm excited to see what that dynamic brings and then just with having so many young girls um you just want to see growth in them not only physically but mentally and and i'm excited to see what what they're able to do and just them come together as a team and do it do it together so well lindsay we want to thank you number one for all the time on coaches corner i know when i texted you and i said hey we're doing this once a week you left me on red for like three days um i didn't know if that meant you didn't want to do the i'm just kidding it wasn't three days it might have only been two anyway but thank you for all the coaches corner times it was such a fun season and i know you'll you'll enjoy getting a chance to be a mom and wife again and do all that that kind of stuff but uh thanks for a great summer oh yeah it was a lot of fun it's always good to brag about the girls and what they're able to do we had a really good team and that includes you ryan so appreciate all your coverage and what you were
