The Boone girls’ tennis team turned in a dominant performance on its home courts Thursday, Aug. 27, defeating Waukee 9-2 in a varsity dual at McHose Park.
The Toreadors won five of six singles matches before adding four victories in doubles play to secure the convincing team win over the Warriors (1-5).
“It was a nice win over a good Waukee team,” said head coach Shawn Latimer. “Their record is misleading as they have played many top 2A teams in the state.”
Boone’s singles lineup set the tone with strong play throughout the afternoon.
At No. 1 singles, Maiya Phanchantraurai rolled to an 8-0 victory, while Kaylee Kuehl earned an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Livi Schneider added an 8-1 decision at No. 3, and Claire Hardinger posted an 8-2 victory at No. 4.
Harper Kuehl completed Boone’s singles success with an 8-1 win at No. 6.
Waukee’s lone singles victory came at No. 5, where Boone’s Olivia Conlin lost 6-8.
The Toreadors continued their momentum in doubles competition.
The No. 1 team of Phanchantraurai and Hardinger won 8-2, while Kaylee Kuehl and Schneider earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Boone’s No. 3 pairing of Conlin and Harper Kuehl posted the most decisive doubles result with an 8-0 victory.
Boone also picked up a win at No. 4 doubles as Rozzie Stevenson and Michaella Anderson won 8-4.
Waukee claimed its second point of the meet at No. 5 doubles where Halle Bailey and Sarah Owen lost in a tiebreaker, 8-9 (3).

“Waukee was a nice addition to our schedule this year and gave our girls more confidence,” Latimer said.
Boone (5-1) will travel to Fort Dodge to face St. Edmond (5-0) this afternoon.
