
The Madrid volleyball team picked up a victory over Earlham during its home Pink Out tournament over the weekend and navigated a busy stretch of its schedule over the past week, competing in nine matches across three dates.
Madrid 2, Earlham 1
The Tigers played on their home court Saturday, October 3, for the Pink Out tournament and finished the day with a three-set victory over Earlham.
Rylin Velky had 13 assists, while Iyla Fine produced a strong all-around match with team highs of five kills and 15 digs.
Jaela Hansen added two blocks, and Savannah Bradley served two aces.
Paige Richards, Hansen, Fine, Hadley Mickle and Abby Williams each served at 100 percent.
The Tigers finished at 92 percent as a team.
Madrid 2, Coon Rapids-Bayard 0
Madrid began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard.
Velky had five assists in the match, while Hansen led the attack with four kills and added a block.
Fine and Bradley each recorded eight digs, while Williams had an ace.
Fine, Bradley and Mickle all served at 100 percent.
Ankeny Christian 2, Madrid 0
Ankeny Christian defeated Madrid 2-0 in the Tigers’ second match of the tournament
Velky recorded 10 assists, while Bradley and Hansen shared the team lead with four kills apiece.
Lillie Benton, Hansen and Velky each contributed a block.
Fine led Madrid with seven digs, and Bradley recorded an ace.
Richards, Fine, Bradley, Mickle and Williams were all perfect serving as the Tigers finished at 95 percent as a team.
South Hamilton 2, Madrid 0
Madrid competed at a quad hosted by South Hamilton Monday, September 28 in Jewell.
Madrid went 0-3 at South Hamilton, falling to the host Hawks 2-0 before dropping a three-set match to Panorama, 2-1, and closing the night with a 2-0 loss to Forest City.
Velky had nine assists against South Hamilton, while Bradley led the attack with three kills.
Hansen recorded a block and Fine paced the defense with 10 digs.
Williams delivered a strong performance from the service line, going 9-for-9 with four aces.
Richards, Velky, Bradley and Mickle also served at 100 percent as Madrid finished at 96 percent as a team.
Panorama 2, Madrid 1
Madrid pushed Panorama to three sets in its second match.
Velky finished with 10 assists and four aces, while Fine led the Tigers with six kills and added two aces.
Richards, Bradley and Williams each recorded an ace.
Hansen contributed two blocks, and Williams led the defense with seven digs.
Madrid did not miss a serve in the match, finishing at 100 percent from the service line.
Forest City 2, Madrid 0
Forest City topped Madrid 2-0 in the Tigers’ final match of the night.
Velky led Madrid with four assists and three kills.
Hansen recorded three blocks, while Richards collected a team-high 13 digs.
Bradley served two aces, and Velky, Caia Byriel, Fine and Williams were perfect from the service line.
Madrid finished the match at 90 percent serving.
Panorama 3, Madrid 1
The TIgers traveled to Pleasantville Tuesday, October 6, for a West Central Activities Conference triangular.
The Tigers battled Panorama for four sets before falling 3-1.
Velky had 23 assists.
Fine led the offense with 11 kills and added 17 digs.
Hansen continued to provide a presence at the net with four blocks.
Bradley led Madrid’s defense with 19 digs and also paced the Tigers at the service line with four aces.
Bradley and Mickle each served at 100 percent.
Pleasantville defeated Madrid 3-0 in the Tigers’ other match of the triangular.
Individual statistics from that match were not available.
Madrid is 2-5 in the West Central Activities Conference and 6-14 overall.
The Tigers will return home Tuesday, Oct. 13, against Interstate 35 for their final home and conference match of the season.
