Joining us on our senior spotlight on KWBG get a chance to talk to Boone senior Piper Klein We're gonna talk about school and and she's also heavily involved in dance So we're gonna talk about that as well and I don't know we'll talk about a whole bunch of other stuff But Piper first off tell me how senior you're going so far It's been pretty great. Honestly school hasn't been too hard and getting to do all the senior activities has been really fun That's what my seniors always tell me Piper So was there ever anything that you can remember like when you were a sophomore or even last year when you were a junior That you were like I can't wait to be a senior so I get to do Like what can you come up with a couple of things? One thing that was really fun was a little stupid, but like the senior genes. It was just fun getting with my friends and doing those And then like senior sunrise was also really fun painting cars I thought the sunrise tradition has been awesome I don't know how you kids got up that early because I know you guys like your sleep But that that's got to be one of the cooler traditions that's that's been going on at boon for a while now Yeah, I think it's really awesome That was cool. That was neat. Okay. So senior year. I know we were just kind of visiting off the air and I asked you How busy is the schedule? It's not too bad for a semester, huh? No, it's not pretty manageable. Tell me what you're taking at boon right now For boon, I'm taking uh, just some lifting classes and then I'm in DMACC comp And then Spanish for You're pretty busy with boon now. You're also busy with DMACC stuff though, too, huh? Yeah, with an online class or speech. That's pretty like At least I can just do it from home kind of whenever I need to and then I have my anatomy and physiology In person which that one's a lot, but So yeah, I understand that so tell me give us the differences piper and I know that There's not huge differences But tell me the differences between your boon classes and your DMACC classes It does it feel really different or is school still school? Our school is definitely still school. I mean, it's just like work overload, but I do like DMACC classes having like I do have some of my friends from boon, but then I also get to meet new people like even college kids and whatnot All right, so I always ask this question piper. I swear it's a hundred percent But I'm gonna ask you anyway, and I'm guessing I know the answer already But do you like the in-person classes or do you prefer the online? Oh I like the online This way I can do it on my own time You're a hundred percent you're a hundred percent piper. I swear everybody loves the online because I guess the the biggest thing I've always been told is you get to kind of get it down at your own pace Is that probably pretty fair? Yes, I do like that I got you now. What's uh, what's what are you enjoying taking right now? Give me is there like a couple of classes you're enjoying? um I would say my favorite is my anatomy class because it is pretty interesting But it's kind of hard. It's really fast-paced and like you got to learn Really fast. I understand I understand now. Is that something piper that you want to get into or it's just kind of a fun fun class right now It's a class I need to take to get into like because I want to be a sonographer. Okay, so it's something I'm gonna take for college So one of those we got to take it Yeah, one of those we got to take I understand hey piper There's going to be a lot of more things you got to take it and you got to do just because being an adult and stuff, right? Right So now how long how long ago has it been that you kind of decided what you wanted to major in and kind of what you want to do a career in Well I don't know. I feel like I've known for about a year Maybe I feel like I just started to hear more about it Like sonographers and it just seemed really interesting to me and I like got to see Uh, kerry hauser's did a presentation And it was really awesome because she's a sonographer and that kind of interested me And then you kind of thought maybe that's something you want to do uh someday when that when they kick you out of the house, right? Yes Well, okay now we talked about school a little bit, but there's something else that I know keeps you super busy Piper when did you first start getting into dance?
Like ever since I was little I did that. I mean I grew up in a big dance family Now that's something that dad pushed you to do, right? Well, I wouldn't say I I didn't I was guessing probably mom maybe had to push there So like do you remember the tumbling and like lyrical and all that kind of stuff from back in the day?
Oh I mean not really is back when I was in carol I was at a few fusion dance. It was my like cousin studio. Sure and It's kind of a blur. I mean since I've been all over the place Well, now here's the question then Piper when did you decide that It wasn't just going to be something that you liked going to maybe a couple of times a week And you do a dance recital later in the year Were you older or can you remember when maybe competition started to become a little bit more into your life? I think I started competition like It was back when I was in carol too. It was like I don't know maybe like eightish Around that age. Okay started and then it was more kind of just fun for me I mean, I was definitely passionate about it, but it really hit me when I came to high school And I was like, this is what I really want to do. Okay. So do you remember what your first competition dance was where you were like I don't want to say nervous because I think everybody probably gets a couple of nerves when they jump out onto the stage But can you remember that first one where you were really excited and it was a big deal? The first time I ever like surely got excited was sophomore like dance team state Okay, that's fair. Yeah Now what about individual is it is it different individual when it comes to you know when you're out there by yourself Is supposed to being out there with your team? It definitely is a different feeling. I mean like preparing for a solo is Way more nerve-wracking because it's like entirely on you, but then from the team aspect. It's like You have to pull your own way as does everyone else. So it kind of It's more of just a nerve feeling before a solo, but then a group is like Having trusting yourself and everyone else if that kind of makes no it absolutely makes sense And that actually leads me into my next one Piper because I've always been interested in this one Is it more fun to come up with an individual routine or a team routine? Definitely a team routine. There's so much more to do. Okay. Yeah, so it's kind of When you do something like that, everybody's got to be on the same page. Is that a little nerve-wracking? It definitely is. I mean we had to even practice this morning And we were just cleaning like being so nitpicky over one of our routines And so that definitely gets hard when you get to that cleaning process and then having to trust everyone that You're going to remember every single count every single like detail. So that's definitely the hard part of group routine I got you. All right, Piper. You are busy with school. You are busy with dance What do you like to do when you're not doing one of those two things? I don't know when that is for you But what do you like to go do when you're not having to to be in the dance studio or at school? that's definitely very rare, but uh Probably just hanging out with the because I most of my friends are like my dance friends So I see them all the time but being able to like Hang out with them outside of that time kind of just I don't know drive around we go to aims a lot There's just some of the things I like to do. Maybe like When it's like summertime and it's not as much we go to the lake a lot and that's really fun Okay, well that the that would keep you super busy then that would keep you super busy So I know homecoming week is almost wrapped up. I know that's always kids' favorite thing or one of their favorite things Give me a couple other things piper. What about the rest of the year? What else are you looking forward to? um I'm definitely looking forward to like the other dances like winter fumble and prom because just like The time of it is just gets really exciting and then
I'm a little sad that football season's almost over because that's probably the best part Of like all of the high school year this football season. It's great Dad didn't prompt you to say that though, did he? No, that's on me. I'm just making sure because I didn't know if he was standing over anything So I thought I'd jump on that one Okay, that actually leads me into my last question before we get a little piece of advice from you piper I don't get a chance to ask this often because there's not been a ton of seniors that have had parents in the school system So tell me about that piper. What's it like having? Uh, you know somebody who's Could be looking over your shoulder while you're in class sometime Um I've kind of not known anything different I mean even when I was still back at kemper like My dad was in the same school. I've had my siblings in the same school with me forever and so And it got really ignorant when I got to high school because they were both here and I had both of them as teachers They are really helpful and it does have benefits, but it also gets kind of stressful because they are always there And You you see them at home and you see them at school. You need a break, don't you? Yes, I never don't I never not see I know that I know that feeling I know that feeling Piper one last thing from me and I'm gonna let you go We always ask our seniors a little piece of advice if they could Help a freshman have a great four years at taboon high school. Give them some advice piper. What do you think you might tell them to do? It's probably a very generic answer, but I think it's very like Reasonable is to get involved in as much as you can take like every opportunity Because you never know what it's going to lead you to like Taking that step could open so many doors and like meeting new people is honestly The best part of high school is because you have all those opportunities So yeah, take every opportunity meet new people do everything because it's going to be over really fast Piper great advice. Thank you so much for joining me on the senior spotlight Have a great rest of your senior year. Piper Klein joining us on our senior spotlight on kwbg
