With us on coaches corner KWBG going to talk some DMACC cross country Michael Meltzer joining us the bears actually Just an action a week ago coach and let's talk about the ladies first then we'll talk about the guys But ladies went down to Indian Hills coach and a third place finish and what I thought was a pretty darn good field Yeah, good field good for them to Be able to race again. We haven't raced in a little while just with a meat cancellation because of the All the rain we've had this year. So it's good to see them out there. We've had some girls that have been a little nick So we pretty much put a full roster out there, which was good to see and we'll just keep building off of that Would you think about overall with with your top runners coach? You had two in the top ten actually three in the top 15 Yeah, I think you overall very good You know Addie Tash wanted to run better our number one that day But I think you know for her to have a quote-unquote bad race and still run about as fast as she did last year Was good to see and then Casey Pippen are number two barely ran any cross country in high school. So That was her that was her opener and we'll put her up in that 5k. So I Didn't really know exactly what to expect. You know, I've obviously seen that she's worked out really well and We've done a good job monitoring kind of her load to keep her healthy So, um, you know, I think she's just gonna keep improving, you know, meet after meet with having her first rate under her belt Boy, I tell you what Michael to have two freshmen, you know, both place on the top ten That's not gonna feel great for just the rest of the year, but that's got to feel great for next year looking ahead Yeah, a lot of great freshman girls. It's the best incoming class on paper. I've ever had and you know, they lived up to the part We'll have a Claire's swine beamer will Kind of join them as we go. She had a little bit of a slower start with just a little injury bug in the summer And so she's slowly coming back and put her with those two You know, and then we have, you know more depth on our team because of the freshman kind of coming up, you know Our five through eight runners. So I think, you know, this is one of the most talented classes I've had and they've been great to work with and I'm excited to see what they can do come the regional and national meal Michael if I counted it right, there were five ranked teams on the ladies side You guys were able to finish like we talked about in third. Does that give the girls some confidence going ahead? Yeah, I think they're very confident. It's just You know, they haven't we haven't raced a full squad very much is here. So to finally put it, you know Kind of paper. This is an official result was good to see and I think you know They got a lot of momentum with you know The regional meat coming up here to really show what they could do and then obviously, you know We'll kind of talk about being a podium team here come the national meal Well, then we talk about the guys side coach and there's a you know Another third place finish with them scoring 70 points Sam Ligia with a second place finish You actually had three in the top 15 to coach and what I also thought on the men's side was a pretty loaded field Yeah, the men did really well. I They were not a full squad that day. They had we got a kid with pneumonia and we had two others that we held out in our top seven That just had some sickness earlier in the week that we just decided not to run So for them to do that was really impressive. I I wasn't sure what to expect from some of the freshmen and guys kind of Running their their first or second AK ever, but they did a really good job What the competition I think, you know, you throw in those Runners, you know, three of our top seven we throw those guys in there. I think it looks a little different But I'm really happy with how the guys that ran how they compete it Coach with what is coming up for the guys and the ladies as well when you when you start talking about the the region 11 Championships obviously that around the corner Was that a tough one though to keep some of those kids out just because you'd love to see where they were before that region 11? Yeah, we Hope a couple of kids out because we really Everyone had the sick bug for about 10 days. So it's just some had gotten over it and some had it some are worse than others So yeah, I think we've seen enough of practice where we know what they could do in a race And you know for the people that were healthy and we want to see a little bit more with during the race The people that we already kind of know where they're at. We kind of held back. So I think you know Knock on what but the regional meet we will have two full squad everyone tells me no It's got the sick bug. So gotta get through these two weeks Coach, what do you expect in from the region 11 championships that coming up in Burlington on a Friday, October the 30th? Let's start on the women's side of things. Where do things kind of shake out at least preliminarily? Yeah, I think we'll have Obviously the best team in division two for the region me and I just I'm just ready to see those girls compete see how many we can put you know Can we go one through five? Can we go one through seven? Can we go one through four? You know kind of see what that looks like, but we have a lot of talent obviously on the girls side and the regional meet isn't there You know and they'll be all they have more goals for the national meet. We've kind of talked about that all year. So The regional meet is good because it gives you that one final fitness test, you know two weeks before the national meet So You know, we'll taper a little bit. We haven't really taper much this year And you'll really be able to see what they can do and then obviously they're gonna have to replicate that two weeks at the national Coach, what about the guys side a little bit more inexperience on that side, but there's still some nice talent there Yeah, definitely talented definitely more inexperience like you said in that leaves to You know more variety in our race performance. So just Hopefully, you know with a little tapery like I said kind of on the guy side, too We get a little more consistency on that side, you know our sophomores See him more in Christian Chubb and great, you know, they've been very consistent for us and then Another shop or Joseph Lowry He was the one that just kind of was overly sick So I think in him in there He's will have good workouts, you know, those three will kind of lead us on the sophomore side and then Time to see if you know what the fresh and can really do at the regional meet I think they'll put on a dominant performance do and then we'll have to see what we can do at the You know, the national meet will be a much harder test.
