Coaches Corner for November 4th: Hannah Vial, Madrid Volleyball

with us on coaches corner KWB G gonna wrap up the madrid volleyball season Hannah vile joining us the Tigers finish up the season losing in the first round of the postseason to south central Calhoun still a fantastic match coach and I talked about that last time we might touch on that at the end but and always like to look back at the season that was and I'm kind of looking back through things and I'm you know there's still one match to me that had to be a highlight of the season I know you might have something different but boy the best of Boone County you guys take out the Torridors two to one that has to be one of the highlights of the season does it not oh yeah I mean that was just a memorable night I don't think I've ever been in a gym that late playing volleyball but yeah I think that is where I really started to see the defense like turn a little bit in that grit in that fight that maybe in the past seasons we haven't had but I mean yeah that was a fantastic match to see I think the one thing that I can still visualize in here we're almost two months later but I can still visualize it is you guys lost that second set and Boone really played tremendous and I thought okay that this could be where the Torridors win that third and get out of here you guys came out right away and got hot in that third set and showed that listen if you're gonna win you're gonna have to take it from us and I thought that was a big building block oh absolutely I think back to about two two years ago how many times we went to five or you know three sets in those smaller games and couldn't finish so seeing them be able to get out right away focused and fight through that and not get down after losing a set I mean that's the key to volleyball I know it was a late night Hannah but what was that huddle like afterward I can't imagine that you don't remember what that was like I think we're all a little bit delusional um I mean actually with that with the auditing game too but I mean they were just so excited the energy and then just realizing that they could do it so we were really happy yeah very very now there was one other match too that I thought was a big one coach and it was a chance to to win conference matches and those are always big you picked up a one over Erlum in the mattered pink out tournament I know you got I-35 as well to kind of wrap up this season I thought the Martinsdale St. Mary's was a big one though freeze well coach oh yeah no that was a fantastic game too super exciting to get done in three sets and again you know to have that student section and to play that defensively well against a pretty good team definitely a big win and then senior night you know that's always a really special night and to be able to sweep and give those seniors that last home game like that that always feels really big memory too yeah no doubt about it you did have such a nice senior class this year too coach so much talent there with Isla and obviously with Jaila Lily Benton Paige Richards Hadley Mickle Stella Snyder as well on that group coach this is another fun senior group that goes through a lot of talent that went through as well how do you think you'll remember this class I mean they're they're just athletes in any sport anything that they do I think they're going to be remembered for being part of that building block and that foundation for changing major volleyball you know it maybe didn't go the way that they wanted but they're going to play a really important piece in that I mean they're just a great group of girls we obviously lose such a talented group of seniors we've got a nice junior class that's coming up as well I know we need to get a little bit more out of the sophomores and freshmen Hannah this is an opportunity now in the offseason what are you expecting these girls to do and what would you like to see them do in the offseason just get together and grow and work you know we're already excited for the summer I'm encouraging some of them to do track you know a great way to stay in shape and to keep working but I think we're going to increase our time in the gym I got a really a lot of solid underclassmen and it's just going to be touches the weight room working on skills going to camps doing everything that we can to get ready for next year kind of feels like to Hannah that club scene is kind of helping the girls out too with you guys getting I don't want to say that you weren't serious before but it really feels like this group is starting to get more into hey I want to get touches not just with my team but with other players as well oh yeah um you know Lord is a really great job with our club program here in Madrid and just even with the youth and a lot of girls are going playing in different places and learning and it's becoming a more common thing I mean the offseason is where you put the work in so it's really exciting that they want to do that and they want to keep playing well I know something Hannah you and I talked about at the end of last season and it felt like it was okay let's find some goals let's find some stuff in the offseason that we want to get done so when we get to August we're not kind of starting at square one I feel like you did that this year so what is your battle cry now this offseason Hannah what give me some things you want to see that you're really really wanting to have I don't want to say ready by August but you know what I mean yeah I think defensively in serving was a big goal this year so I think the offensive part of it especially because you know we don't have the height that some of the other teams do so working on that explosiveness and the offense that matches with the defense so I just think again reps weight room and building that blocking I mean and I have two medals to replace and outside so just kind of getting comfortable in those positions and finding out what works where gotta be exciting though I mean I know it's a little terrifying when you talk about girls you have to replace but Hannah that spots open right I mean if there's girls that want opportunities there's going to be spots and I know we've got a bunch of in that especially in that junior class that did play quite a bit but now they're going to be asked to do more oh yeah I know and I think they're excited for it and you know I'm excited I have a lot of sophomores too and freshmen that just yeah finding out what works the best and as always thank you so much for some time how to blast this past season thank you for all the scores as well we appreciate those and we'll look forward to working with you again in august next year awesome thank you you about Hannah vile again joining us madrid volleyball here on coaches
