Baumgardner wins throwing events at Cadet Relays

Jude Baumgardner swept the throwing events as the Boone boys’ track and field team finished fourth with 108 points at the Iowa Falls–Alden Cadet Relays Tuesday, April 14. 

Dike-New Hartford won the meet with 162.5 points. 

Field events 

Baumgardner captured first place in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 2 inches and followed it up by winning the discus at 154‑05. 

Slayde Lee finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 41-03, and Caden Sprecher finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 137-08. 

In the jumps, Gabe Villalva led Boone in the long jump, placing fifth with a leap of 19‑00, while Jaydon Clark and Landon Youngblood both cleared 5‑06 in the high jump to tie for fifth place. 

Relay events 

Boone had three relays place runner-up. 

The 4×800 relay earned second place with a time of 8:41.80, led by Ajay Braddock, Calvin Cook, Teddy Johnson and Dorian Myers. 

The distance medley relay of Ryder Hilsabeck, Maddox McIntyre, Clark and Myers finished second in 3:47.07. 

The 4×400-meter relay of Clark, Myers, Braddock and McIntyre ended in second place in 3:32.25. 

The shuttle hurdle relay of Bodie Brogden, Brenden Hedrick, Issac McCloud and Dom Nordin placed fourth in 1:09.26. 

Individual events 

Brogden and Brenden Hedrick placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 110 hurdles in 16.68 and 16.7. 

Austin Felder placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 56.00, and Villalva was eighth in 1:00.12. 

Braddock placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:10.56, and Felder was seventh in 2:15.39. 

Clark was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.64, and Caler McClain was eighth in 24.51. 

Johnson finished sixth in the 1600-meter run in 5:15.66, while Calvin Cook finished close behind in 5:18.05. 

Brogden placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.96, and Max McLaughlin was eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.61.

The boys will compete Thursday, April 16, at the Davis Relays at Perry.
