The Boone baseball team used a fifth-inning surge to secure a 9-5 non-conference win over Webster City on Friday, June 19, at Webster City High School.

The Toreadors scored twice in the top of the first inning and added another run in the second to build an early 3-0 advantage.

Webster City responded in the middle innings, but Boone broke things open in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs to stretch its lead.

Webster City answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the fifth, and Boone tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to seal the victory.

Noah Gorman led the Toreadors at the plate, collecting four hits — including three doubles — while driving in two runs and scoring once.

Noah Davies added two hits, highlighted by a double, while scoring a run and driving in another.

Ryan Bowers tallied two hits and scored a run, while Braxton Gifford added a hit, scored twice and drove in a run.

RJ Lennon chipped in with a hit and crossed the plate twice.

Cole Christeson had a double, one hit overall, while scoring once and driving in two runs.

Landon Youngblood also had a hit, and Levi Behn added a run scored for Boone.

On the mound, Youngblood earned the win, striking out seven.

With the win, Boone improves to 9-7 overall and is 4-5 in conference play.

Webster City falls to 15-3 overall with the loss.

The Toreadors return home to Memorial Park tonight for a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader against Carroll.

Carroll enters the matchup at 5-12 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
