
The Boone boys tennis team earned victories over Nevada and Fort Dodge Tuesday, May 12, at Fort Dodge as head coach Jed Hammen also picked up his 75th career coaching win.
Boone 7, Nevada 2
The Toreadors opened the day with a 7–2 win over Nevada.
Boone picked up four singles wins, led by Strummer Grout, who delivered a 6‑2, 6‑2 victory at No. 2.
No. 4 Patrick Houser, No. 5 Brandon Holm, and No. 6 Logan Wickman also earned straight‑set wins to give Boone control heading into doubles play.
The Toreadors sealed the match by sweeping all three doubles contests.
The team of No. 1 Grout and Calvin Jordan led the way with a 6‑2, 6‑3 win, while No. 2 Braxtan Sproule and Houser and the duo of No. 3 Holm and Sam Chesnut each added straight set victories.
Boone 9, Fort Dodge 2
Later in the day, Boone continued its momentum with a 9–2 win over Fort Dodge.
Grout again led the singles lineup with a 6‑0, 6‑1 win, while No. 3 Brandon Holm, No. 5 Sam Chesnut, and No. 6 Kam Lehman each added straight‑set victories.
The Toreadors won all five doubles matches, highlighted by the top team of Calvin Jordan and Grout, who posted a 6‑3, 6‑2 victory.
Additional wins came from Houser and Sproule, Holm and Chesnut, No. 4 Moses Jungck and Wickman, who won in third-set tiebreaker, and No. 5 Ethan Stecker and Lehman.

The Toreadors will host a 1A Districts Singles and Doubles state qualifying meet Saturday, May 16, at McHose Park in Boone.
Teams in the district include Audubon, Sioux City Bishop Heelan, Boone, Denison-Schleswig, Carroll Kuemper Catholic, Newton, Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Webster City.
