With us on coaches corner on KWBG, you're going to talk some Boon Boys golf head coach Lance Johnson joining us as the Torridors. Just had their sectional meet yesterday and, boy, pretty challenging group of teams. I knew when the kind of the, I don't want to say pairings, but when the groupings first came out, Des Moines Christian obviously has been very strong this year in Humboldt. And then you kind of wondered where could Boon slot in. And Lance, I guess before we talk about what happened, going in, there was an opportunity, I think, to move on for this team. Yeah, absolutely. You know, in the postseason, the name of the game is just survive in advance. And I told our guys going into it, you don't have to win the sectional, you just, you have to finish third. And that was going to come down to, you know, like you said, Des Moines Christian was probably going to finish number one. Humboldt was going to finish two or vice versa. So you're going to have to knock off Webster City, Gilbert or Nevada to get that, that third spot. And I thought we'd been, we'd seen all those teams in meets earlier in the year. And I thought we were, we were in, I guess you would call it firing range of being able to clip one of those teams if we put all four scores together. So I know the Raccoon River Conference meet, I know you would have liked to obviously finish just a little bit higher there. Did you feel pretty good though going into yesterday, even though, like I said, RSC maybe wasn't quite what you wanted to shoot? Yeah, I think so. I thought in terms of course set up that our conference meet at Vanker was a really good like tune up for Briggs Woods and Webster City. Both those courses have some holes that are pretty open. And then they also have some holes where you've got to play target golf. And you've really got to be able to get the ball in play. So I thought that was the main thing going in. And we had played practice rounds at both those courses. So I was disappointed with how we finished a conference. I thought we could have and should have finished fifth place in that. But you know, that's why they make you play. But I thought that conference meet was a good tune up for Webster City. And I guess I was confident that we probably weren't going to play worse than what we did Monday. I thought we probably played the worst golf that we could have possibly played. And we just needed to tweak some things that practice Tuesday to get ready to go. All right, so the one question I did have, and I hate to always put you on the record, but I know you'll, I know you'll give me the PC answer, but Lance conference is challenging and is on a Monday. And then you got to come back on a Wednesday and play sectionals. Would you like to see conference maybe last week? Yeah, I would. I've been open with that. I talked to a couple of conference coaches about that. It seems like that's what a lot of other schools, a lot of other schools do. And it, you know, you're playing your two, arguably your two biggest meets of the year within three days. No doubt. You know, and then we go to the Gilbert Invite that Saturday before. And that's essentially a state tournament because Decora comes down for that, Knoxville comes up for that. So, you know, we played some high level golf, three really big meets in a five day span. And then, you know, if you play it the week before, you kind of just mentally shift to the post season, but playing that conference meet on a Monday, you know, if you get rained out, you're not sure when you're going to play it again. And people oftentimes forget that sometimes that sectional meets on Tuesday, depending on where your assignment is. So last year, I know three conference schools, they played conference Monday. And then that afternoon, they drove to their, their sectional site because they turned around and played sectionals the next day. So, I would like to see it bumped up, you know, and even almost played it like, do we find a neutral site to play that thing every year? But, you know, you deal with the hand that you dealt and we'll see what happens moving forward. Well, I'll tell you what, one kid that I really wanted to talk about was Jackson Myover and comes out and fires an 81 for you. And really, I think this kid's ceiling the next couple of years is going to be super fun to watch. I hope just getting the taste that he's gotten this year Lance has gotten him excited for the future. Yeah, absolutely. The thing with Jackson is Jackson can be as good as Jackson wants to be. You know, his scoring average as a freshman for 18 holes was a 88.7. He trimmed that down all the way to a 85.6 this year. And yeah, he probably, I would say, put together his second best round when it counted at sectionals. He opened the year with a 79. And then he was kind of living mid to high 80s after that. And he, you know, I thought he had a really good, he was very deliberate with his practice on Tuesday. And I think that showed up yesterday. Well, a couple other kids too. And what's fun is nothing against your upperclassmen, but anytime I get to keep saying sophomore is Lance, you got to get a smile on your face too. But Brody and Calvin, I thought had pretty good days on Wednesday for you as well, both with 83s. Yeah, I mean, our kind of mid to back end of our lineup did exactly what we needed them to do. And they are, you know, like you said, only sophomores. And that's something that I have to keep, I have to keep reminding myself is, you know, they're still young golfers, but they're still doing some things that haven't been, haven't been done around here in quite some time. And for them in the biggest meat of the year to put together, you know, a couple of 83s, that's really, that's really, you know, encouraging for us and future is bright for those guys. I know we'll talk about graduation when we do our season wrap with you Lance, but when you guys were, you know, in the parking lot, kind of loading things up, getting ready to go home, what were the kids talking about? I know we're obviously disappointed because we're right there. I mean, anytime you say, you know, 10 strokes from a tie, not, you know, nine from moving on, everybody price starts thinking back, man, if I would have only got a four here, if I would only done, you know, I mean, I'm sure the wood it could have should have come out, but what were the kids kind of talking about with you yesterday, Lance? Yeah, you know, those kind of are things all year. It was just a couple of shots here, a couple of shots there. And, you know, a short drive back from Webster City, a couple of them were talking about, oh, I really want to grind this or grind that over the summer. And yeah, I kind of told him, when you look at the season and nutshell, it really comes down to, we've got to be able to develop a few more short game tools, not rely on one sort of chip or pitch shots to be able to hit and then being consistent ball strikers. And I told that for all of them, I said, if they're wanting to work on something, it's become a better ball striker and develop your toolbox around the green. And then, you know, next year, we're going to be one of those teams moving on to district. So it was kind of interesting because, you know, you talked about like the senior wrap up, you know, out of our, we bring back 13 of our top 15 scores. Which is crazy. It wasn't like it was a really somber ending because I think, you know, all those guys are going to be back next year. So it's just kind of like, you know, what's the next step that we need to take? Lance, as always, thank you so much for some time. Thanks for results, as always. And we'll wrap the season with you here in a couple of weeks. All right, sounds good. Thank you. You bet, Lance Johnson again joining us. The Boon Boys Golf here on Coaches Corner.
