BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council did take formal action to move ahead with the purchase of the new fire truck. The Council voted unanimously to move forward with the purchase during their regular meeting Monday. Fire Chief Justin Adams present the Council with the proposal that included specifications developed through the Houston-Galveston Area Council. Adams says the use of the specifications and bidding procedure has proven to provide savings for a number of Iowa communities. That, coupled with the council’s intent pay up front for a new truck have resulted in a savings of more than $30,000. Adams says the proposed rescue/pumper has a price of $670,000, but with the savings will be $639,401.
Over the last couple of years, the city has set aside $407,000 for the purchase, and the Council’s action will allow for the use of $232,401 from the Local Option Sales Tax reserves. The purchase is being made through Reliant Fire Apparatus, Inc. The new addition to the Boone Fire Department will be built over the next 7-to-9 months and will be the primary service vehicle. The current truck, built and purchased in 1994 will replace the oldest truck in the fleet acquired in 1975.
