
It was a difficult weekend for the Madrid baseball team, as it dropped a pair of conference games to Des Moines Christian on Friday, June 12, and followed with a non-conference loss at Lynnville-Sully on Saturday, June 13.
In West Central Activities Conference play on Friday at Madrid High School, the Tigers were swept in a doubleheader by Des Moines Christian.
Game 1: Des Moines Christian 10, Madrid 0
Madrid struggled to generate any momentum at the plate, finishing the game without a hit.
Starting pitcher Zach Newell took the loss and recorded three strikeouts.
Game 2: Des Moines Christian 18, Madrid 0
The second game proved equally challenging for the Tigers.
Kolbie Owens accounted for Madrid’s lone hit in the contest.
Levi Kockler came in as a relief pitcher and was charged with the loss.
Lynnville-Sully 13, Madrid 3
Madrid fell short in a non-conference matchup, 13-3, Saturday against Lynnville-Sully on the road.
Emerson Bridgewater led the Tigers with two hits, including a double, while scoring one run and driving in two RBIs.
Kolbie Owens added two hits, and Kole Deppe recorded one hit and scored a run.
McCoy Cooley and Brady Springer each collected one hit, and Landon Lenehan crossed the plate for one run
Conner Pettiecord, the starting pitcher, took the loss and notched one strikeout.
Madrid moves to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in West Central Activities Conference play.
The Tigers will face Woodward-Granger (6-5 overall, 5-4 conference) in a conference game tonight in Granger.
