
The Madrid softball team scored two wins at the Lynnville-Sully Softball Classic, Saturday, June 13, after losing a doubleheader to a ranked conference opponent at home Friday, June 12.
Madrid 11, Moravia 1
In the opener, the Tigers rolled to an 11–1 win over Moravia.
Madrid scored in four consecutive innings with one run in the first, two in the second, four in the third, and four more in the fourth.
Mayzie Surratt collected four hits, driving in four runs, scoring once and adding a stolen base.
Hailey Renslow also finished with two hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs.
Audrey Brown added two hits and two RBIs, while Samantha Springer drove in a run.
Hadley Mickle chipped in with two hits and two runs scored, and Ashlyn Burkhart and Kiera Alt each contributed hits.
Surratt threw a complete game victory, striking out five.
Madrid 15, Lynnville-Sully 1
Madrid defeated host Lynnville-Sully, 15–1, later in the day.
The Tigers exploded for nine runs in the first inning and added six more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Mickle led the way with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Brown had three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs, including a double.
Surratt added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Springer and Tilly Sweet each recorded multi-hit games, while Burkhart, Rylee Borcherding, and Katelyn Mickle all contributed RBIs.
Renslow added two RBIs and scored a run as Madrid’s lineup produced from top to bottom.
Surratt once again earned the win, pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.
Game 1: Des Moines Christian 5, Madrid 1
Madrid hosted a West Central Activities Conference doubleheader against No. 14 Des Moines Christian Friday, dropping both contests.
In Game 1, Des Moines Christian pulled away for a 5–1 win.
Madrid had hits from Renslow, Brown, and Sweet with Sweet driving in the Tigers’ lone run.
Surratt took the loss, recording four strikeouts.
Game 2: Des Moines Christian 3, Madrid 2 (9 innings)
Game 2 stretched into extra innings, but Des Moines Christian edged Madrid, 3–2.
Surratt led the offense with two hits, including two doubles, while scoring both of Madrid’s runs.
Springer added a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Mickle and Renslow each contributed a hit.
Surratt struck out six over nine innings.
Madrid stands at 12–4 overall and 5–3 in conference play.
Madrid travels to Woodward to take on Woodward-Granger (7–7 overall, 5–3 conference) tonight in another conference matchup.
