
The Madrid baseball team dropped both games of a West Central Conference doubleheader to visiting Interstate 35 Thursday, June 25, at Madrid High School.
Game 1: I-35 8, Madrid 0
Eli Petersen led Madrid at the plate with two hits.
McCoy Cooley and Kole Deppe each added a hit.
Zach Newell started for Madrid and struck out six batters and took the loss.
Conner Pettiecord provided relief, recording two strikeouts.
Game 2: I-35 16, Madrid 3
Emerson Bridgewater had a double, while Levi Kockler added a hit and an RBI.
Landon Lenehan also drove in a run.
Deppe finished with a hit and scoring a run.
Eli Nelson and Sander Nelson each crossed the plate as well.
Cooley started Game 2 and recorded one strikeout while taking the loss.
Eli Nelson came on in relief and struck out five batters.
I-35 improved to 21-8 overall and 10-5 in conference play, and Madrid fell to 8-14 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
Madrid will travel Saturday, June 27, to Hess-Limberg Field in Estherville.
The Tigers are scheduled to face West Sioux (7-8 overall) and Estherville Lincoln Central (12-9 overall) in non-conference matchups.
