Madrid girls’ track wins Ron Hamel Coed Invitational

The Madrid girls’ track and field team captured the team championship at the Ron Hamel Coed Invitational Tuesday, April 28, at Madrid.

The Madrid girls’ track and field team captured the team championship at the Ron Hamel Coed Invitational Tuesday, April 28, at Madrid.  

The Tigers finished first in the team standings with 127 points, holding off Van Meter who finished second with 104.5 points. 

Paige Richards won the long jump with a leap of 16‑10, earning gold on her home track. 

Lauren Dvorak won both the shot put (37‑6.25) and the discus (124‑10). 

Madrid’s 4×400 relay team of Kimee Smith, Richards, Hannah Brandhorst and Katelyn Brandhorst claimed first place with a winning time of 4:24.59. 

The Tigers also earned a victory in the shuttle hurdle relay with Iyla Fine, Ashlyn Burkhart, Charlotte Schaeller and Adelyn White finishing first in 1:14.09. 

Madelyn Grothus placed second in the 3000-meter run, running a time of 10:31.98. 

Katelyn Brandhorst earned a third‑place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.46. 

Hannah Brandhorst followed with a third‑place effort in the 3000-meter run, clocking 11:06.26. 

Fine placed third in both the 100‑meter hurdles (17.01) and the 400‑meter hurdles (1:18.57). 

The Madrid sprint medley relay team of Fine, Jaela Hansen, Richards and Katelyn Brandhorst added a third‑place finish with a time of 1:56.63.

The girls next compete at the West Central Activities Conference Track Meet Tuesday, May 5, at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School in Guthrie Center.
