06/15/25

Officer followed up with a downtown business, after leaving a business card in the door last week, asking them to mow a lot behind their building and clean it up.  Officer spoke to a resident of the building and while dealing with a language barrier, thinks that they understood that it must be cleaned up soon or face fines. 

Officer followed-up on a complaint of an abandoned vehicle that is sitting legally parked on Southern Prairie Drive.  The anonymous caller, called back to dispatch to check on it after he complained last week by leaving a voicemail on the Police Department phone line.  Officer informed dispatch that he knew who the caller was and that it was on his list to get to it around other pressing police duties and responsibilities that small town police work require. 

Officer contacted a home owner on Southern Prairie Drive, about the car parked there for an extended period of time.  She stated that the car belonged to her son’s boss but that her son was driving it.  She stated that he is doing his required two weeks for his military training is why it has not moved.  The Chief OK’d the vehicle to remain where it was parked until he returns home.  God bless our military!

Officer spoke to a DHS worker, who reported an intake of a possible case involving a Madrid family.  Staff forwarded the report to the officer and will forward additional information later in the week, after another interview takes place.

Officer received a report from an owner of a vehicle that wouldn’t start on the trail head at 3Rd and Main, he advised he would work on getting it out of there tomorrow.

Officer contacted a former Madrid resident in regards to her child being in an accident in the City of Boone.

06/16/26

Officer performed a salvage inspection on a motorcycle that was recently purchased at auction.  Officer signed off on all applicable paperwork so the subject could license/title the vehicle. 

Officer received a complaint of a vehicle blocking the alley behind the post office.  The vehicle was gone upon the officer’s arrival. 

Officer met with a Madrid resident, who turned in a lost/found Madrid banner that was located on the roadway.  Officer contacted a city employee and turned it over to him.

Officer spoke to a Boone County Detective in reference to an on-going case. 

06/17/26

Officer received a notice from DOT in reference to an on-going case.  Officer forwarded the information to the officer in charge of the case.

Officer was dispatched to Cedar’s for a medical call.  Officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on scene.

Officer received a call from a downtown business owner in reference to a notice that he was served to clean up the lot behind his building.  He reported that he got it mowed and would be removing the two vehicles this week.  Officer will follow-up to make sure that the work continues.

Officer was dispatched to an open line 911 call in the 400 block of Annex Road.  Officer made contact with a group of workers inside Subway.  It was found that one had accidentally called 911.  After explaining things several times, due to a language barrier, it was found that everything was OK. 

Officer was dispatched to the Madrid High School.  A staff member called wanting a welfare check on a female sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot crying.  Officer made contact with the subject and the elderly female was having cramps from driving from North Dakota home to Des Moines.  Officer assisted her by walking around her vehicle until she felt better, and then she finished her trip home.

Officer was flagged down in the area of Madrid Home to report that most days during the evening after work commute, cars are often seen speeding and driving recklessly around the corner where 210 breaks and comes back together by the facility. Citizen was advised that officers could step up the patrol in that area and run radar during those times to ensure motorists were operating safely and in accordance with the law.

Officer responded to a repeat call of an illegally parked car near the 400 block of Southern Prairie Drive. Caller was advised that the vehicle was being operated by a National Guardsman who was away at training for another day or two and that the vehicle would be taken care of if needed at the point of his return.

Officer responded to the 900 block of S. Kennedy Ave. on a neighborhood dispute. Officer was able to advise one half of the dispute, with plans to make contact with the problem half the following day when the individual would be back in town.

06/18/26

Officer spoke with complainant at the police station regarding a potential scam. Complainant advised that she had received a call from the sheriff’s office advising that she had missed jury duty, and now had citations upwards of $2000.00, to be paid via “Apple Pay”. Officer checked the “citation numbers” that had been provided and confirmed that they did not exist. Complainant was notified by officer via phone that this was, in fact, definitely a scam.

Officer responded to the area of the 600 block of E. 2nd on the concern of an elderly citizen driving around the neighborhood erratically, potentially lost. Officer made contact with individual and ensured that she was in the right frame of mind of continue driving, and thereby followed her the two blocks back to her driveway.

06/19/26

Officer took another complaint about an elderly person’s driving the night before. Officer will contact DOT for a reevaluation and attempt contact with a family member about the issue.

Officer returned a call to DHS reference an open case.

Officer spoke with a business reference an abandoned bike found on their property.

Officer took a complaint reference an employee of Dollar General soliciting customers.

Officer dispatched to the 300 block of North Water Street for a medical call.

Madrid resident turned in a Vacation/Residence Security Check Request form into the Police Dept.

Officer spoke with a family member of the reckless driver from earlier. She advised they have had concerns as well and will be removing the keys from their parent.

 Officer received a complaint of a unpermitted party taking place in the City of Madrid at the Thirsty Pig. Officer spoke with the owner who told him it was an exclusive party for friends of his and there was no money exchanged for any of the services. He was advised there cannot be people consuming alcohol in public free or not. This is an ongoing investigation.

Officer performed several traffic stops within the City of Madrid.

06/21/26

Officer took a request for a welfare check on a female that is staying in Madrid from an ex that lives in Minnesota. The female was located and found to be fine; she contacted the male to advise such. The male called police back in an attempt to get more information. The officer gave him only what info that she approved. 

Officer attempted contact with a property owner that has their sump discharge hose across a sidewalk, limiting handicap accessibility. Officer left a message on their Ring camera and will stop back later when they’re home.

Officer was dispatched to Highway 17 for a reported group of motorcycles doing over 100mph on Northbound coming into Madrid. Officer observed the group coming in to Madrid riding at or under the speed limit. Officer did spot one the riders exceeding the speed limit. Officer performed a traffic stop on the motorcycle.

Officer received a phone call about a yellow vehicle northbound on Highway 17 that passed a vehicle in a no pass zone. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

Officer was dispatched to Git N Go for a report of a male missing out of Storm Lake with Dementia had reportedly just used his credit card at the store. Officer spoke with staff and confirmed the male had been there and used his card to get gas but had left approximately 2 hours before the Officer’s arrival. The male was later located.
