Madrid continued its strong start to the volleyball season Monday, August 31, cruising to a straight-set victory 3-0 over West Marshall in State Center.
Madrid took the opening set by nine points before holding off a stronger challenge from West Marshall in the second set.
The Tigers then closed the night by limiting the Trojans to just 13 points in the third set to complete the sweep.
Rylin Velky led the Madrid offense with 18 assists while also contributing three kills.
Iyla Fine led the Tigers with eight kills.
Jaela Hansen and Abby Williams each added six kills.
Hansen was also a force at the net defensively, recording a team-high three blocks.
Madrid’s defense was anchored by Paige Richards, who collected 13 digs, and Fine added 10 digs.
The Tigers were especially sharp from the service line.
Richards led the way with five ace serves, while Williams added three aces.
Madrid posted an impressive 96 percent team serving percentage, with Velky, Caia Byriel, Fine, Savannah Bradley and Williams all serving at 100 percent for the match.
The Tigers improved to 2-0 on the season while the Trojans fell to 0-4.
Madrid (2-0) travels to Colfax-Mingo (3-2) tonight for its next match.
