Boone’s baseball team earned a pair of victories Saturday, June 27, at the Prange Classic in Ankeny.
Game 1: Boone 1, West Marshall 0
The Toreadors opened the day with a tight game, edging West Marshall 1-0 thanks to a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Braxton Gifford drove in the game’s only run, while Henry Wright crossed the plate for the decisive score.
The Toreadors collected just two hits in the contest — one each from Noah Davies and Gifford — but it proved to be enough.
Conor Scoggins tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out seven batters while keeping West Marshall off the board.
Game 2: Boone 5, MOC-Floyd Valley 1
Boone carried that momentum into its second game, pulling away late for a 5-1 victory over Maurice Orange City-Floyd Valley.
The Toreadors scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning before adding one run in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh frames.
MOC-Floyd Valley managed its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Tyce Carlson recorded three hits and drove in a run.
Ryan Bowers added a hit and two RBIs, while Davies had two hits, including a double, and scored twice.
Levi Behn contributed an RBI.
Noah Gorman and Landon Youngblood each added a hit and scored a run.
Braxton Gifford drove in another run, and Cole Christeson also recorded a hit.
Behn delivered a complete-game effort with seven strikeouts.
Boone improves to 13-9 overall and is scheduled to host Des Moines Lincoln (9-20) in a non-conference matchup on Monday, June 29, at Memorial Park.
