Boone Family STEM Festival, Saturday at DMACC

KWBG 04/18/18

BOONE, Iowa—When people hear the phrase STEM, attention usually turns to school.  But this weekend, several groups have joined together to offer a Family STEM Festival in Boone.  It won’t be a day long event, rather something parents and grandparents, too!  So if you’re looking for something fun to do with your kids?  Check out the Boone Family STEM Festival on Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Natalie Hedlund, 4-H Youth Coordinator for Boone County says this free event is open to families from all over Boone County with kids of all ages.  Everyone will be able to experience hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities.  Kids can experience virtual reality, 3D Printing, exciting experiments and so much more!  The DMACC STEM Club is planning to have an Oobleck tank for youth to interact with.   The Science Center of Iowa will be there to do some experiments that show the interactions of pressure, temperature and states of matter to explain why things go pop or bang.

There will be free t-shirts given out to youth and there will be a free hot dog lunch for the first 200 people.  Remember it’s Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on the Boone Campus of DMACC.  This event is a partnership between DMACC in Boone, Boone County ISU Extension & Outreach/4-H and the North Central STEM Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
