Joining us on Coaches Corner, KWBG. Gonna talk a little boom girls tennis today. Sean Latimer joins us, Torridors. Boy, I tell you what, I still, you gotta tell me, Sean, I'm gonna go back to Tuesday cause you gotta tell me, how did you get the squeegees out quick enough? How did you get that court ready to go? Because I kept watching all day and I'm thinking, there's no shot, but yet, you guys got your senior night in. Yeah, that was pretty wild. We, you know, I left school about 11, 30, 12 o'clock. It's still raining. And I'm like, there's just no way we're gonna be able to get this guy. We even had a call in Ankeny about how you, how about we move it to Wednesday? We didn't hear back in about 12 30. I look out my window and I'm like, it's starting to dry up a little bit. So we called in the brigade, we had parents, we had players, we had blowers, we had some barn fans. I mean, it was, it was quite the, quite the spectacle to see how we got that in the court dry and it got dry right around 2 30 around on the time we were supposed to start. And then we started feeling a little bit of sprinkles right as we put them on. I'm like, oh no, you know, but luckily we had just a couple bouts of sprinkles, but not enough to do anything. And yeah, we got senior night in, which was outstanding to get that, get that in. Well, and a real nice victory against Ankeny too. And I know we'll talk about, because post season announcements event and everything has come out in assignments as well, but that had to feel real nice coached it to get a nice victory against an Ankeny team that I mean, usually I hear Boone versus Ankeny. I go, we might be in a little bit of trouble, but boy, oh boy, 10 to one is pretty dominant. Yeah. You know, anytime we, anytime we play some of these two A teams, you know, they just bring a lot of athletes and, you know, sometimes they're that's a tough matchup, you know, but boy, yeah, we came out right away and they're a little bit down this year from, from years past, but you know, they still put, you know, girls on there that it can hit a ball and then are fairly competent. So I mean, it was definitely a nice way to end the season and it was good for the seniors to, you know, have their last home meet regular season go out with a win as well. What are senior nights like to you, Sean? You've done so many of these. I mean, I know they're still important and they're still special. I know the kids always, you know, a little emotions with that, but what do they like for you? You know, it's, it's emotional, you know, it's, you know, you see some girls that have given so much to the program over the last four years and some of them six and seven years, you know, I've been working on it with you and doing things for you. So yeah, it's, it's definitely emotional and, you know, to see some of the girls that, you know, you're, it's just their last walk down their last time on for home. It's, it's, yeah, it's just emotional all around for you. And, you know, yeah, I've seen a lot of them, but it's every year it seems to hit me a little bit different watching them walk and definitely was, was proud to see a lot of those girls this year walking through. I don't know where to pick an effort because you guys, like I said, we're so dominant that match. I guess, Sean, overall, how did you feel like the girls played that afternoon? You know, it's always one, you always wonder on senior night, you know, how are you going to, you know, you got a lot of emotions coming out of for other things than playing tennis and, you know, especially with the way the weather was and everything. So there was a lot of things going on, but yeah, they came out and took care of business pretty quickly. I think they all wanted to get it in for any type of raid happens and they just took care of business. And, and that's kind of been our theme all year, you know, they just come on out and take care of what they're supposed to do and the victories continue with that. Sean, I know there's a little bit of stress because you see what the potential is for this squad. Has this been fun though to watch these girls come out? And I mean, let's be honest, it has been a very, very dominant late summer into the fall here. Yeah, it's definitely, this season definitely reminds me of a lot of 2008 where we, you know, we won the state title. We just, it seems like, you know, they just show up and they don't need a whole lot. They just go out and, you know, I remember, you know, first few years, five or six years ago, I'm running to every court, every change over, trying to get to everybody and this year, they just go out and they don't really need me. They just go out and take care of business and, you know, that's been fun to have and fun to watch. All right, so post season assignments and everything came out, Sean, kind of take us through what your thoughts were when you saw everything and how things were kind of shaping up. Yeah, individual regionals, I, you know, I was surprised that, that they, you know, it seems like the union just went really regional, you know, like who's, you know, close to you. They didn't really do a whole lot of moving teams out to other places and I felt like our region, we've got a couple, you know, teams in Ballard and North Polk that are going to be, you know, probably top 10, you know, UTR teams in our regionals. So I, I mean, it's definitely not an easy region. You know, I look at some of the other regions and I'm like, man, we go there. We might be able to qualify five or six of us there. So it's definitely going to be a tough regional. It is nice that it's going to be home, you know, it always seems to play better when you're at home in front of your crowd and, and so we'll, we'll see how it goes next Wednesday, but our hope is to get some girls through the state. Added, added busy time though, Sean, when you, when you have a chance to host, is that still something you want to do though? Would you rather host and have to go on the road? Absolutely. Yeah, it'd be, because the city means so early in the morning, you know, I think it's eight o'clock. I mean, sometimes we're, we had to go to Denison or Waterloo. I mean, it's just, it's a lot of, you know, you have to get up pretty early. So it's kind of nice to get sleeping in their own bed. They usually go hang out at the bakery with each other and kind of build that team again and, and then they come out warm up and then we're ready to go. So it's, it's definitely, definitely a lot more work on our end, you know, especially getting courts ready. We just hope that it can maybe get cleared off here for without rain, but it's definitely a lot more work, but you know, we, we're definitely happy to have it at home. It's definitely some time now in between, you know, Ankeny and then, and then next week, did you consider maybe trying to grab another duel or are you pretty happy with getting practice time and let's just, you know, stuff like that? Yeah, we actually can have a scrimmage and we're actually going to do some scrimmage against the Valley girls tennis team, which is the top five two-way team. So it's going to be excellent competition for us. And you know, so it's just going to be a nice little scrimmage next week against them just to get tuned up a little bit for regional. So that should help us quite a bit. But yeah, it is, it is a long, the girls union does seem to spread things out quite a bit. And, you know, we're looking at team state not to the middle of October. So I mean, it's, it's a month where you try not to get rusty, but you also want to try and balance, you know, fresh legs and getting them rest and ready to go. So for sure you do. Sean, best of luck coming up next Wednesday. We'll talk to you again here real soon. All right, thank you. You bet. John Latimer again, joining us boom girls tennis on coaches corner.
